The church of St Jude In July 1999 the Centenary of Federation Community Grants program awarded a grant to St Jude’s Randwick to replace the existing bells and fittings. The old eight bells at Randwick were steel bells produced by Naylor Vickers of Sheffield in 1864. The tenor weighed 16 - 3 - 24 including the headstock. The frame was wooden and had been untouched since 1865. The bells were difficult to ring and not very melodious. The steel bells were last rung on November 12th 2000 and were removed from the tower, along with the frame and all other fittings, during November/December 2000. The new bells were cast in July 2000 and some of the locals made the journey from Randwick to Loughborough to see their new bells being cast. The new bells complete with fittings were shipped to Australia and arrived in December 2000. The new frame was produced by a local Australian fabrication company to our specifications. The frame and bells were installed by the locals. The arrival of the new bells in Randwick was marked by a parade, speeches from VIP’s and the blessing of the bells. The installation of the new bells took place between October 2000 and February 2001.
