Tower, Loughborough
8 bells 6-2-13 in B
The original eight bells were installed in the
purpose built tower in 1899. The tenor was originally cast as the
treble for St Paul's Bedford but came out too flat so was
retained for later use. The first peal on the eight was Stedman
Triples in 1901. The bells were augmented to ten in 1921.
There have been many record lengths rung on the
bells, the most notable being the the extent of 40,320 changes of
Plain Bob Major in 1963.
The Bellfoundry Tower is the countries leading
peal tower and there are currently three regular peal bands that
have an attempt each week. In addition to this there are visiting
peal bands as well as visiting ringers on the foundry tour so the
bells do get a lot of use.
The method rung on the CD is a plain course of
Little Bob Royal, it was initially going to be a touch but that
lasted too long so it was reduced to a plain course.
The band consisted of:
1 Anthony M Daw
2 Frances Dodds
3 Jennie Paul
4 Gail L Wade
5 Frances M Marshall
6 Alison M Godfrey
7 Andrew D Higson (C)
8 Sally A Mason
9 Rowan P Wilson
10 Andrew A Ward
