Buckland Brewer has strong links with Taylors.
In 1824 John Taylor established a branch of the foundry here, in
addition to the main works which were in Oxford. The branch in Devon
lasted ten years before John moved back to Oxford. There is a memorial
plaque to John Taylor in the church and a small bell in the ringing
chamber which was given by John and Denison Taylor as first prize
in a striking competition held in 1912.
The bells were completed in the works on the 10th November 1899.
They were rehung on ball bearings in 1937.
We initially recorded the traditional 60 on thirds
but this lasted 20 minutes so the ringers cut out several changes
to come up with a much shorter touch suitable for putting on the
CD.
The band consisted of:
1 Joan A Clarke (C)
2 Joyce M Nicholls
3 James M Clarke
4 E Claude Nicholls
5 Michael F Poole
6 George G Smale
