Abergavenny, Gwent

Church of St Mary
10 bells 25-0-18 in G

The current peal of ten was installed in 1947. The old peal of eight were recast, with the exception of the medieval 6th which was kept on display in the church and a new bell was cast in its place, and two trebles were added.

The recording at Abergavenny took place on Thursday 6th August 2003. After a fairly heated discussion on the merits of various methods and the order in which to ring them, the band decided to ring a lead of Yorkshire, two leads of Little Bob and a lead of Cambridge with a single half way and end. Initially the recordings were done outside and John Fielden called the touch, when the microphone was moved inside it was rung silent and non conducted. The tenor hum meant that the band had to stay silent for about 20 seconds after they had finished, this was more difficult for some than others, especially a very large fly with a very loud buzz!

The band consisted of:

1 Jennie Paul
2 Julian C Parker
3 S Clarke Walters
4 Alan E M Bagworth
5 John H Fielden
6 Stephen W Barton
7 Simon J Poole
8 Roy LeMarechal
9 James Clatworthy
10 Andrew W R Wilby
