New gudgeons and ball bearings were provided as were new clapper and crownstaple assemblies, new pulleys and the bells rehung in the existing frame.

Eight new bells were cast to form a diatonic chime hung in a steel frame and sounded by electro-magnetic hammers, with a facility for simple tune playing and simulated change ringing.

The old fourth bell was replaced and a new treble cast to complete the peal of six. Most of the bells were retuned and equipped with all new ringing fittings and hung in a new two-tier cast iron frame, with the old timber frame being retained.

The existing treble was recast and two new trebles and a tenor added. A new three bell frame was spliced into the existing frame to create a frame to house the six bells.

These bells are hung in a wooden cage in the churchyard and are swung by hand, they have no ropes or wheels. The headstocks of the third and the tenor have been modified to provide clearance for the ringers arms and therefore reduce the risk of accidents.

A bell has been on loan to the theatre for many years, for use in productions and now they have had one cast for permanent use.

Two trebles have been added to augment the ring to ten and the frame was adapted to house the ten bells on one level.

The treble was recast, the other 5 bells retuned and all the bells were rehung. The timber frame was strengthened.

These bells have been augmented to 10 by the addition of a treble and tenor. The existing back 5, 1749 Rudhall bells, have been largely untouched. The original front three of the eight were recast and a new seventh was cast. The old seventh becoming a sharp seventh to allow the original five Rudhall bells to be rung. The bells are hung in a new 11 bell frame.

All ringing fittings were repaired and refurbished and new gudgeons and bearings were fitted to the existing headstocks. The cast iron bell frame was rebuilt after the tower had been restored and the six bells rehung.

Two new treble bells, given in memory of the late Peter Border, were cast and provided with all new ringing fittings, to augment the existing 8 to 10.

A new treble was cast to augment the ring of five created in 1999. It was hung in a rider frame above the five.

The bells were rehung on new fittings and the existing timber frame has been strengthened. Limited tuning was carried out within English Heritage guidelines.

Two bells have been cast, with canons, one weighing 4cwt, and the other weighing 6 1/2 cwt.

Refurbishment

Numerous refurbishment’s have taken place, where new gudgeons and ball bearings have been fitted to existing headstocks, the clapper and crownstaple assemblies and roller boxes have been overhauled and the bells rehung, these include:

Minor Refurbishment

New gudgeons and bearings were fitted to the treble at The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Northampton (8 14-3-7 F#). The clapper was re-bushed and a new centre pin made for the 7th at St. Mary’s, Nottingham (12 35-2-23 C).
