The 1920s
Taylor carillon received a major overhaul in 2000. The 30 smallest
bells have been
rehung on radial headstocks with new quadrant transmission. All the
bells have had new clappers. 3 New bells, C#, D, D#, were donated
by Taylors to complete the five chromatic octaves. Maintenance walkways
were installed in the tower.
York Minster, York

Six new bells
were cast to form the deepest tone clock chime in the UK, with Great
Peter
being utilised as the hour bell. The chime was commissioned by the
Dean and Chapter to honour Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in her
100th year. The bells sound a specially composed set of quarter chimes
based on the hymn tune York. The two largest bells should
appear in the notable bells section of the Ringing World diary as
they are both over 40cwt. (5 41-1-12)

The second of
the original three unringable bells was retained as the tenor of
a new ring of
six with a redundant bell from Little Packington as the fifth. Four
new trebles were cast and the bells hung in a new two-tier cast iron
frame below the old timber frame. The project was featured by the
BBC in its series on restoration projects called Old Wrecks.

bells tuned and rehung with new fittings in a new cast iron frame
on two levels.

tuned to harmonise with the existing 15th Century bell to form a
