John Taylor Bellfounders began producing handbells in the middle of the 19th century. The processes involved have been passed down and developed through the generations and are used in conjunction with 21st Century technology to craft today’s highly acclaimed Taylor handbell. Today our handbells are played across the world. Our handbells are cast from quality bell metal ingots heated to temperatures in excess of 1200oC and poured into prepared sand moulds. When the moulds have cooled the handbells are removed and inspected for quality and tone, only selected castings are ever used. The handbell is then tuned by our skilled craftsmen who monitor the tuning using sophisticated electronics in conjunction with their proven aural abilities. Five grades of finishing compounds are used to give the quality Taylor finish to every bell. Every level of restoration work can be carried out, from the complete overhaul of a set of bells, to simple replacement of fittings which can brings old bells to an ‘as new’ finish. Full advice can be given on the work needed to transform used bells into a fine quality set, a detailed quote will be provided. Inspections can be carried out on any handbell set, free of charge, and with out obligation, a written report is provided. |
